The Great Trails Festival is an annual event at Malvern, Ohio. My wife and I attend when we can. It's a fun way to see how this country began. Even if your not a history lover, the Great Trails Festival is just a fun day to explore the way things were back in the "olden" days. There's food, music, entertainment, education and vendors selling crafts, antiques, old guns, clothing, jewelry, etc.
On September 4, 2010, we arrived early and got a front parking spot. We walked the entire area in under four hours. We watched a trapper's encampment with a reenactment. We had lunch while sitting on a log which was great. We had fun watching the shooting contest, seeing all the items for sale and we even bought a few things like we always do. We ended up staying the entire day watching programs, listening to live folk bands and walking through the woods. I even got a little spooked at one point, (see the pictures below).
If your looking for a good time, this is really it. Many people here camp out in tents from the early period of America. They also camp in teepees. And they dress is period clothing. The whole place is built as an early American fort. Click the link below to go to their website and start planning your trip to the festival right now. You won't be sorry. Have fun!
